Founded by Periyar E.V. Ramasamy in 1961, it has produced 8,000 teachers till date.

In the All Teacher Training Institutes' competitions held in Christhuraja College in 2013, the Institute won the overall championship cup. In the government general examinations held in 2016-2017, the Institute won first place in Trichy district.
